Working remotely from Alaska for a month using eSIM hotspot
I kept seeing posts saying “good luck getting signal in Alaska lol” so I figured I’d share my real experience.
I’m a software dev with tight deadlines, and my company sent me to Anchorage (then client sites in Kenai, Fairbanks, and Valdez) for 4 weeks. Well, I wasn’t going up there without extra data.
Went all-in on an eSIM so I didn’t have to hunt for physical SIMs or deal with carrier stores, and bought an AloSIM standard. For comparison, my coworker with a regular Verizon physical SIM lost service half the time outside cities.
The only real outages I experienced were deep inside Wrangell-St. Elias and about 40 miles of the Tok Cutoff (but I planned offline work for those stretches)
I don’t know how this worked out, but damn, I am glad it did. I’m going to go for eSIMs when I have the option.
When do you guys use eSIMs? Are they just for travelling, or is this a good hack, or was I just lucky?
