Help with dog vomiting
Hello,
We have a 13-year old golden retriever who, seemingly out of nowhere, started vomiting about once day, starting last Wednesday (Dec. 3).
Species: Dog • Age: 13 • Sex/Neuter status: spayed • Breed: golden retriever • Body weight: 45 lbs
Prefacing: we have a vet appointment for today at 2:00 but want to know maybe an idea of what we’re looking at or something to ask our vet about.
History/Clinical Signs: Our dogs get fed at 8/9 in the morning and 6 in the evening. At about noon on Wednesday (Dec. 3) we noticed our golden had a swollen eye. Specifically the sclera (white part) or her right eye was puffy and seemed a little wet, but no discharge. We contacted our vet and they had us schedule an appointment.
An hour later, her eye was back to normal.
Three hours later she threw up partially digested kibble from the morning.
We thought maybe this was related to a new treat we had given her. So we stopped giving the treat hoping it was just some allergic reaction. At dinner we gave her fortiflora. She then threw up in the night, again about 8/9 hours after she last ate. Food was partially digested. Also important to note, she’s acting perfectly normal, still peeing and pooping regularly, and accepting food. We have no reason to believe this is an obstruction (she has had one before so we’re very aware of those symptoms).
I am a bit fuzzy on the timeline after this point just that she’s thrown up nearly once a day since then, always 8/9/10 hours after eating and her other eye swelled up and went back down quickly. Her eyes has been a little red as well and she has been a little more itchy after eating than normal (hard to know for sure though since it was something I wasnt monitoring before).
We ended up thinking maybe it was somehow the fortiflora we gave her causing some type of allergic reaction so last night we swapped her to a fresh bowl and gave a meal of about 1/4 cup oatmeal and 1/2 cup kibble (fed at 6:30). Then about 3:30 am she throws up some bile. About 4:30 am she throws up a little spot of foam.
Again we have a vet appointment for 2:00 today but really want to get some possible ideas of what we could be looking at.
Currently we are leaning toward some sort of allergic reaction considering she has been acting normal outside of the eye and vomiting but we just don’t know.
Thank you in advance for any insight you may have!!
