Texans vs Cardinals parking guide?
heading to the Texans game against the cardinals on the 14th and figured i'd share some parking tips for anyone trying to figure out the situation at nrg stadium. it can be a real headache if you don't plan ahead.
honestly the best thing i've found is this app called prked. you can rent someones private driveway or garage right next to nrg stadium. its usually way cheaper than the official lots and you get to park in a reserved spot thats a super short walk away. the best part is you totally skip the insane traffic getting into and out of the main lots. getting out of there after a game can take an hour sometimes.
if you want to do the official parking, you have to buy a pass beforehand online. don't even try to just show up and pay, it's a nightmare. the lots are color coded like blue, red, green, etc. and they usually run from $30 to over $50. the blue lot is huge for tailgating if you're into that. just know that all the lots get super packed. plan to get there early, like at least 3-4 hours before kickoff.
another solid option is to avoid the stadium traffic altogether and use the metrorail. you can park at the fannin south transit center for a flat fee (i think it's like $25 on game days) and the train drops you off right at the stadium. everyone in your car gets a rail pass with the parking fee which is a pretty good deal. it saves a lot of time and stress.
you'll also see a bunch of random businesses and people selling spots in their lots along kirby drive and fannin street. some of these can be cheaper, maybe $20 or $30, but it's a bit of a walk and you're leaving your car in a random spot.
a few extra tips: the 610 loop and fannin st are the absolute worst for traffic so be ready for that. when leaving the official lots, they direct you out based on flow, so you might not get to leave the way you came in. just be patient. and remember they have that clear bag policy, so dont bring a regular backpack.
hope this helps everyone out. should be a great game, go texans
