Does “If I’m X tall…” Always Refer to the Speaker?
A question for native English speakers: If I say, “If I’m 5'5" tall, would this shirt fit me?” does that mean that I am 5'5", or could I be asking on behalf of someone else (a child, a friend, etc.)? In other words, is this a figure of speech that 99% of the time refers to the speaker, or not?
