Why did this actually work lmao?
My dorm somehow turned into a competition to see who could get the weirdest free TikTok Slash Free item. It started as a joke between two people who tried the TikTok slash free thing once and now there is a dedicated Discord channel where we send each other links and track wins.
After seeing my RA get a free LED strip and someone across the hall get a suspicious gaming mouse I finally gave in and tried for a desk fan. The process felt ridiculous. Tap the progress bar. Wait. Tap again. Message someone you have not spoken to since the first week of the semester. Tap again. Repeat. The whole thing felt more like a side quest than shopping.
A week later the fan actually arrived. It works. My desk is slightly less of a sauna. None of us expected Slash Free to work but now half the floor has random items and nobody is stopping.
I do not know why this became a thing but now apparently owning a random free object has become part of our building personality. Honestly none of it makes sense and somehow that makes it funnier.
