Why does the ranking system make me lose so much?

i used to be Platinum-diamond with my main civ. this season I'm trying the new civs, so i know I can't play as well. I'm down to gold 2. the issue is that when i lose, i only lose 10 points and when i win, i gain 35 points. So my stats are 6 wins (one of which was a free win) and 13 losses this season. Today, i only had time to play one game. Except my opponent resigned immediately, giving me a bunch of points and shooting me up to gold 3. Then I lost the next game. They were playing a placement game, so i didn't even lose any point. It feels unfair the system makes me lose so few points for losing fair and square. It's like it obliges me to mathematically lose 2-3 times as much as i win. As someone who can only play one hour per week, what do I do? It makes me want to play less and less. I don't want to spend the next 3 weeks losing the only game i can afford to play that week. Do i just resign at the first sign of a bad fight, or resign automatically within the first 8 minutes if i see the opponent can kind of play? It baffles me the ranking system keeps putting me against players it should know are better than me.
