Parents of nonverbal/minimally verbal kids : did you ever worry your child would get “addicted” to a speech-generating device / app?

Non-Verbal

Dear Parents,
I’m a parent of autistic teens, and over the years I’ve heard so many conflicting things about AAC. Earlier, the common fear I used to hear was “If you introduce AAC, it will stop speech.”
But more recently I’ve been hearing another concern: that a child might get “addicted” to a speech-generating app or device and refuse to communicate in any other way.

I’m really curious about your real experiences with this:

Did you ever hesitate to try AAC because you were worried your child might depend on it too much?
If yes, where did that fear come from ? therapist advice, family, school, or just general anxiety?

And for parents whose kids do use AAC now:
What actually happened in real life?
Did your child get overly attached to the device, or did they use it the same way they use any other communication tool?

I’m asking to understand what’s myth and what’s reality, especially from those who’ve walked this path.
Thanks to anyone who’s willing to share.
