Parking for the Broncos vs Packers game? a quick guide
hey everyone, seeing a lot of questions about parking for the big game on the 14th so figured i'd share some tips since i've been doing this for years. getting in and out of empower field can be a nightmare if you don't have a plan.
honestly the best thing i've found recently is this app called prked. people who live right by empower field rent out their driveways and garages for game day. it's way cheaper than the official lots and you park in a neighborhood spot, so you can just walk a few blocks and completely skip the insane traffic jam getting out of the stadium lots. its a much shorter walk and you're on the highway headed home before people have even gotten out of their spots.
if you're set on official parking, you need to know that all the pre-purchased permits are long gone. there are a few cash lots but they open 4.5 hours before kickoff and i'm not kidding they sell out within the first hour or two. lot c is the big tailgating spot and opens 6 hours early for a crazy fee, around $55, and people line up super early for those. if you have an ADA pass, they have spots in lots L, D, or G but again, get there the second they open.
the other lots people use are around Ball Arena, the Auraria Campus, or the Denver Aquarium. they're a bit of a walk, maybe 15-20 minutes, but can be an option if the stadium lots are full. just be prepared for game day pricing, it won't be cheap.
the biggest problem is traffic. do not, i repeat, do not try to take i-25 right up to the stadium an hour before kickoff. you will regret it. federal blvd is also a total mess. if you have to drive, try coming from the south and using the 8th ave exit to sneak in via zuni. leaving the game is even worse, you can honestly sit in the stadium lots for an hour without moving.
if you want to avoid all that stress, the RTD light rail is your best friend. the D, E, and W lines drop you off right at the empower field at mile high station. it's cheap, like a few bucks for a pass, and you completely avoid the traffic disaster. you can also park for free at a meter downtown on sundays and just hop on the train from union station.
one last thing - don't even think about uber/lyft to get right to the stadium. it gets super expensive with surge pricing and most drivers get lost in the game day road closures and don't know the drop off spots. if you want to use a rideshare, have them drop you off at a bar nearby like brooklyn's and just walk over. and definitely don't try to park in the neighborhoods around the stadium, they are permit only and you will get ticketed and towed.
hope this helps everyone going to the game! it should be a great one. go broncos
