Solo founder dilemma: Build one focused feature or an "all-in-one" platform?
I'm a solo dev thinking of making something in the website management space and I'm stuck on a strategic decision. Would love some advice from people who've been there.
The situation: I'm torn between two approaches:
Option A: Build an all-in-one platform that combines 3-4 related features (think: different aspects of managing/monitoring websites). Everything in one dashboard, convenient, no tool-switching.
Option B: Pick ONE feature, make it really good with maybe 1-2 unique angles that competitors don't have, validate it with real users, then potentially expand later.
My concern with Option A:
I'm just one person - can I realistically make 3-4 features competitive with specialized tools? Risk of building a "jack of all trades, master of none" Harder to market ("we do everything!") vs. a clear positioning
My concern with Option B:
What if the standalone feature isn't compelling enough on its own? What if the "magic" is actually in having everything together?
For those who've launched SaaS products (especially solo): What approach worked for you? Did you start narrow and expand, or go broad from day one?
Also - am I overthinking this? Should I just build a working MVP either way and let users tell me what they actually want?
Thanks in advance for any wisdom.
