Kingdom of Erdmarg fanfic

General Universe

//I started writing a fanfic about Erdmarg. Have a look.

Black Keep in Alfretsrat was no palace, but a real castle built to withstand long sieges and violent assaults in times when battles were still fought with swords and arrows.

Nowadays, of course, it had been adjusted to meet the needs of the twentieth century. It had electricity, heating systems, and a telephone. Nonetheless, it was still a medieval fortress with narrow windows, long windy corridors, and deep dungeons.

For centuries, it had served as the seat of power for the kings of Erdmarg. Real power, however, resided elsewhere, in a different part of the capital, on the opposite riverbank. The prime minister and his associates ruled the country from the tall building of Landhast.

This day was special, for today, as in the times of old, all the important people of the kingdom gathered in the throne room, standing in rows before the marble and white as snow throne set firmly against the black castle walls.

Edgar Tallhard, a tall man in his late twenties, took the crown from the hands of the elderly archpriest and placed it upon his brow. It was surprisingly heavy. Then, he received a ceremonial sword from one of the archpriest’s disciples and raised it high above his head. Now, all he had to do was recite the words of the royal oath.

Edgar met the gaze of Prime Minister Willhelm Hilldurg, a heavyset and elegant man, now as ever wearing his iconic rumian hat. He and most of his parliament were against the coronation. They would have preferred if Edgar stayed in Arcasia, so they could continue ruling the country unhindered by his uncle Adelard, the regent. Willhelm Hilldurg had opposed the return of the rightful heir and had even managed to use his political influence to postpone the coronation and keep the regency for a few years longer than necessary. Now however, it was finally over.

Edgar finished the oath. His uncle, the prime minister, other important politicians, as well as nobles, businessmen, celebrities, and foreign delegates all knelt.

“Long live the king!” Their voices echoed through the grand hall.

Edgar marched forward, passing many rows of people, with valets walking closely behind him and holding his ceremonial coat. Guards opened the great doors. In the courtyard, King Edgar mounted his stallion. With the assistance of the royal guard, he was now to ride through the city in a solemn procession with a stop on the Hill of Victory, where he would deliver a speech addressed to his subjects.

A new chapter in the history of the Kingdom of Erdmarg had just begun, and many things were about to change.
