Need ideas for a startup as a Tunisian expat in Germany
I am currently a student in Germany doing my masters in robotics and AI. Also working a part time job in AI. I came to the realisation that no matter where you are, being an employee means you’re going to struggle throughout your life to survive. I know it seems early to think this way but the reality is the job market is shit here and inflation eats everyone alive. I will always be budgeting and spending most of my net salary on rent and insurance. I am trying to save money as best as I can on the side and hopefully will have about 20k € by the time I finish my masters (this definitely includes the blocked account I came with in the first place as I tried to save most of it and rely on my own income here).
My long term goal is to invest in my country and contribute with something meaningful. And I also don’t see myself working for people. It’s been something I hated from day one. So it is not too early for me to start thinking this way, it actually keeps me going.
My question is: what realistic options do I have in Tunisia that aren’t destined to fail from the start? When it comes to AI, it feels like the field barely exists here beyond people using ChatGPT or jumping on trends from time to time. Are Tunisian companies actually open to adopting AI services?
The potential for AI is huge, but I rarely see any news or major discussion about it. If there are examples or headlines I’m missing, I’d really appreciate it if you could share them.
Also, what other startup niches do you think are profitable in Tunisia and don’t require a massive budget? I’m willing to take on debt in the future for something I genuinely believe has strong potential though.
