Stock Market Today: Nifty 50 trade setup, US Fed meet, gold & silver price trends, and seven stocks to watch
Indian equity markets slipped sharply on Monday as benchmark indices corrected after a strong post-RBI rally. The Sensex fell 0.71% to 85,102.69, while the Nifty 50 declined 0.86% to 25,960.55, marking an end to its two-day winning streak as investors booked profits at higher levels.
Market sentiment remained cautious ahead of the crucial US Federal Reserve monetary policy meeting, which begins on December 9 and concludes on December 10, 2025. Although traders largely expect a 25 basis-point rate cut, uncertainty persists over the Fed’s commentary on future rate-cut trajectories. According to the CME FedWatch Tool, 87.4% of market participants expect a cut, a dramatic shift from the sub-30% probability just weeks earlier.
Gold & Silver
Soft international bullion trends weighed on domestic metals. On Monday:
- MCX gold slipped 0.03% to ₹1,29,920 per 10 grams
- MCX silver dropped ₹1,783 (0.97%) to ₹1,81,625 per kg
Investors stayed risk-averse before Fed Chair Jerome Powell’s policy outlook.
Market View
Siddhartha Khemka of Motilal Oswal Wealth Management expects markets to stay volatile until the Fed outcome. Domestically, factors such as INR–USD movement, FII flows, and liquidity conditions in secondary markets amid strong IPO activity will guide market direction.
On the technical front, Nifty dipped below its 21-day EMA and closed at a 9-day low, reflecting weakening sentiment. Rising India VIX and a bearish RSI crossover reinforce short-term downside risk.
