My dog has a problem with eating in excess.

I have a rat terrier, and it says for his size he should have 2 meals a day totaling the most 1 1/2 cups of food. He's 12 lbs. at the most. I feed him when we eat but inhales it and is consistently begging for food while me and my husband eats as if he didn't just eat. He never eat human food. I make all his meals myself so i know its good food and eats very well and I know i do tend to over feed a little bit. Any sudggestions on how to curb this behavior?
