How do explorer maps work in Bedrock Edition?

In my survival world, I'm trying to use the cartographer explorer maps to find other villages and structures nearby. In the Minecraft wiki, it said that villagers will sell a map to the closest unloaded structure of that type, and will sell a different map once the chunks are loaded. However, when I tried buying a second Taiga village map from a Plains cartographer after loading the Taiga village, he still sold the same map. I went and tested it in a survival world, and the cartographer sold the same map even if the whole map was completed. I edited the wiki to remove the unloaded chunks part.

However, I now don't know what to trust about explorer maps. So before I waste time and emeralds, I thought I would try asking here. Does anybody understand how explorer maps work? My main doubt is whether, when I move the villager like 1000 blocks using the nether, he would sell a new closest map to that location.
