China should say, "no thank you to further Nvidia imports", and develop its own domestic chip industry
According to The Gaurdian:
An Nvidia spokesperson said: “We applaud President Trump’s decision.” He said offering the H200 chips “to approved commercial customers, vetted by the Department of Commerce, strikes a thoughtful balance that is great for America”.
According to fool49:
But what is great for China? And what is great for the world? To end the dependence on USA and Nvidia for GPUs. And make long term contracts for supply of AI chips from diverse sources, including Google TPUs, and Chinese AI chips. Chinese will eventually catch up with USA in AI chips. Huawei, Baidu, and Cambricorn are the local suppliers. Private Chinese companies are still reliant on Nvidia, but with the right government policies, that will be over by 2030.
And India needs startup and big tech funding to develop its own AI chip design and manufacturing industry. With support from the government and domestic and international venture capital, they should have AI independence within a decade.
