A revision of my most controversial post
A while ago I made a post discussing the possibility of mobs breaking blocks. It has now become one of the top posts on this sub when sorted by controversial, so I want to make a revision of it.
1 day rule: mobs can't break blocks placed after more than a day.
The main complaint raised was that this mechanic would affect player builds. I also think this is to be avoided, mobs should only break blocks in combat situations. The 1 day rule ensures that builds aren't affected. You can also negate this mechanic in the area where you are building, by placing some kind of special block or barrier.
Immersive world building: I've always thought that games where NPCs can do basically the same things as players feel more immersive. For example, in Another Crab's Treasure there's a mob that uses the same moveset as the player. In Hytale there factions who construct elaborate builds, have the same overall anatomy as the player and are meant to be intelligent, so it's only natural they should also be able to modify the world.
