Free Parking for Houston Texans vs Arizona Cardinals at NRG Stadium (Houston 12/14)
hey figured i'd share some parking advice for the texans game this sunday. getting in and out of nrg can be a mess if you dont have a plan.
honestly finding actual free parking is next to impossible. the closest thing is probably parking at the fannin south transit center. you can park there for the day and then just hop on the metrorail which drops you off right by the stadium. it's a short ride and you get to skip sitting in all that pre-game traffic right around the stadium which is a nightmare.
another option i've used is an app called Prked. it lets you rent a private driveway or garage from someone who lives right next to NRG stadium. it's usually way cheaper than the official lots and the best part is the quick getaway. you can just walk a few minutes to your car and get on the road while everyone else is stuck in the lot for an hour.
if you want the full tailgate experience you pretty much have to park in the official nrg lots. you need to buy a pass online before you go, they dont take cash for texans games. the lots open four hours before kickoff so get there early to claim a good spot and beat the worst of the traffic. just be warned leaving the official lots after the game is chaotic. it can take an hour or more just to get out. the traffic cops will direct you wherever they want to keep things moving so you might not get to leave the way you came in.
there are also a bunch of random private lots around kirby and fannin that businesses run on game day. some are okay but prices can be all over the place.
no matter what you do, get there way earlier than you think you need to. the traffic gets bad fast. also remember they have that clear bag policy for nfl games so dont bring a regular backpack.
hope this helps, should be a great game. go texans.
