My honest opinion on oblivion remastered
As a lover of Skyrim and Bethesda in general and with the agonizing wait for es6 I was ready to jump into the oblivion remastered hoping to fill the void. But I ended up abandoning it, I didn't get into the main story loads and was saving the popular quests like dark brotherhood but what I expirenced left me uninterested in experiencing it.
To start with a preference the lack of a companion and affinity system was a big drop off for me personally. I like to share the world explore characters relationships and even without them the lack of this will be liked and disliked from my choices from characters just felt too static for me and less immersive.
Yes the game looks beautiful but still had so many loading screen I was wanting to build my mage before diving further so was doing the mages guild which sends you around the map as well as side missions. Having up to 3 loading to get though one small building really pulled me out on top of how much waiting I had to do which is just more loading to skip time. As well as in oblivion gates a load into the tower fine but couldn't the tower itself be seemless. It became a slog and was not interested in seeing this throughout the rest of the game. Yes loading screens are a beathsda staple now but I have recently been finding them harder to deal with.
I love getting lost in the world and exploring but the exploring I did left me unfilled with not getting rewarding loot as I had found. With the magic system though I didn't get to making my own spells, I longed for the feel of magic was in Skyrim where you were actually welding it. I dipped into melee and just as well and found it equally as less rewarding.
I like choice driven RPG where your character is a person in the world. This left the duologue trees boring to me with it being mostly questions and feeling unable to build my character personality out at some points only having one option to choose from. I felt deprived of the choice I was looking for and felt although quests have some choices to make, not feeling like I was actually having an impact on outcomes with consequences.
And finally another personal gripe the lack of a skill tree like Skyrim. Leveling was just adding numbers without the ability to find tune my build with skills that allows for me to feel like proper character growth with unlocking abilities and stat changes like that way.
I really wanted to love oblivion I tried the original and couldn't get past the graphics and with the beauty of the remaster the faces are still hard for me to take serious in none humans. I just haven't found that hook in the gameplay to suck me in and although I was excited for the story I liked what I saw of main quest. A good story is not enough for me when everything around it I don't find enjoyable.
So really what I'm wanting to ask is, am I missing something do the things I can't get into change later on and I've quit too soon? Is their a playstyle more fun I should try instead? I want to love this game like other Bethesda games and would want to know what I'm missing that makes it so beloved.
