Free Parking for Texans vs Cardinals at NRG Stadium (Houston 12/14)
what's up everyone, figured i'd share some parking tips for the texans game against the cardinals this sunday. getting in and out of nrg can be a nightmare if you don't have a plan.
honestly, finding actual free street parking right next to the stadium is almost impossible on game days. but one of the best cheap options is to use the METRORail. you can park for free at many of the METRO Park & Ride lots further away from the stadium and then just take the train in. The train drops you off right at the stadium at the Stadium Park/Astrodome stop, and a one-way fare is super cheap, like $1.25. It's a great way to avoid the crazy traffic jams right around the stadium after the game.
if you want to be closer, I've started using this app called Prked. it lets you rent someone's driveway or garage right next to NRG stadium. it's way cheaper than the official lots and you get a guaranteed spot. plus you can walk right to the stadium and completely skip the traffic chaos getting out of the main lots. a friend told me about it and it's been a game changer.
the official nrg stadium lots are fine but they can be expensive, ranging anywhere from like $30 to over $150 depending on how close you are. you have to buy these passes in advance, there's no cash option on game day. lots usually open four hours before kickoff. be careful about people in the lots trying to charge you with their own credit card readers, there have been some scams.
another popular option is the Fannin South Transit Center. you can park there, but it costs around $25 for special events like Texans games. that price includes a round-trip rail pass for everyone in your car, which is a pretty good deal if you have a full car. it's only one stop away from the stadium.
some of the businesses and gas stations along Kirby Drive or Fannin Street will sell parking spots in their lots. these can be a little cheaper, maybe in the $20-$40 range, but you might have a bit of a walk. always make sure they look legit before you pay.
no matter what you do, get there early. the traffic around 610, Kirby, and Fannin gets really bad. trying to show up 30 minutes before kickoff is a recipe for disaster. give yourself a couple of hours to get parked, walk over, and get through security.
hope this helps everyone out. go texans
