Help Request

Hi there,

I tried out Jellyfin a couple of months ago but was not satisfied with Jellyfin's capabilities of recognizing my movies (about 50% failure rate) and the not so smooth adding of categories and posters. Although adding a category to a film often did not work at all, and that's when I stopped using it.

After going through the documentation I do have some questions about library handling - and sorry if those questions were asked before.:

  1. Do you really put each film in its own folder? My films are organized in the film maker's folder (which by itself is in a A to Z folder). Example: /movies/R/Rainer Werner Fassbinder/.... I understand that Jellyfin adds a lot of files to a film. It then would be something like this: /movies/A/Angst essen Seele auf (1974)/Angst essen Seele auf (1974).mkv. Do you guys do it that way? That's a lot of folders to have for a library.

  2. The documentation says its ok to add a metadata ID to the filename. I guess that would make it easier for Jellyfin to recognize the film for the library which is one main problem I had with Jellyfin. The files in my library are named by movie title plus the year of publication: "Angst essen Seele auf (1974).mkv". It then could be "Angst essen Seele auf (1974) [tmdbid-216].mkv". Is this how you do this?

  3. As I struggled adding my own categories to films, I wonder if this can be done by directly altering the metadata file of a movie. So I would not need to use the Jellyfin app. I propably would need to first create a category within Jellyfin, but then could use a text editor for those films I want to include to a category. Is this possible? And also for other things, like poster, etc? Would Jellyfin then need to re-read the library?

Thanks for tipps!
