My experience with Smile White

Other Aligners

For anyone thinking of SmileWhite I want to give my true experience right now, which is different than the shiny PR videos.

I was really unhappy with how my teeth looked approaching the end of my treatment so l messaged my "dedicated point of contact" with photos of my teeth and explained the things I was unhappy with.

I didn't get a response, and on my last dentist visit I made them aware of my issues too. They basically said “this is how your teeth look now, we can't make them straighter" even though they look nothing like the orthoview planner indicated, and took the attachments off regardless. So I'm paying £59 a month until 2030 for slightly straighter teeth in one area, but with new wonky and overlapping teeth.

l've emailed SmileWhite about 6 times since this, and didn’t get a response. So I called them and they said "if the dentist has taken off the attachments then you're not eligible for refinements" which is clever from a business point of view, but not great from a customer service point of view. If only my email had been actioned by my "dedicated point of contact" prior to my last appointment!

The dentist visit very much felt like a tick box exercise, that was the day I was supposed to finish my treatment, so they made sure it was. They didn’t compare my teeth with the plan to check if I was done.

But all of this is nothing compared to the jaw pain I'm now experiencing. My teeth no longer fit together when I close my mouth, and my back teeth have a gap between them, meaning all of the pressure is on 3 teeth at the front (like I said, they're still wonky so are at angles) The pain is unreal, and I can't believe I'm paying £59 a month for this for the next 5 years.

Yesterday I finally got an email back, “Our in-house dentist has reviewed your case along with the images you sent and has confirmed that your treatment outcome has been successfully achieved. Unfortunately, this means we are unable to offer a refinement”. MY NIGHT RETAINER DOES NOT FIT, BECAUSE MY TEETH DO NOT LOOK LIKE HOW THEY THOUGHT THEY WOULD. One of my teeth has already moved in such a way that the retainer doesn’t reach the rest of my teeth. It’s higher up than the rest of my bottom teeth and stops the retainer from reaching the rest of them.

Rather than fix my teeth and make them straighter, they want to make a whole new retainer for the new wonkiness. Surely this is proof that my teeth plan isn’t “successfully achieved”? If it was achieved, why would they need to make a new retainer to fit my wonky teeth????

Please please do tonnes of research before spending so much money with this company. I have never been so disappointed. My teeth are absolutely not straight, of course their “in house dentist” would claim it’s finished so they don’t need to spend any more money on refinements.

I’m not really sure where to go from here, this was supposed to be an investment into myself for something I was insecure about, and instead I’m left with messed up teeth and paying £59 a month for the pleasure. I’m so sad and disappointed.
