Was TDA rewritten?

I remember reading someone claim that a staff member confirmed that there was a retiring of the second season, but they couldn't source it.

It makes sense that TDA was rewritten, considering how messy the plots are, including not being sure the villain is.

However, has there been an official confirmation? Do we know what TDA was originally supposed to be?
