Why doesn´t the police try to arrest people outside of their homes?

Law & Government

I just watched yet again the video of the US police raiding the house and killing someone. That got me thinking, isn't coming during the night, knocking on the door, and raiding homes the most dangerous way to make an arrest, even if they have the right person?
Wouldn't it be safer to wait for them in front of the house, from a distance, make sure they don't have weapons, and then surprise arrest them? Unless someone's life inside the home faces imminent danger, it seems like it produces more casualties to do it this way..
