Sitting on cash + pension
Hi HENRYs
Hope you’re all on a well earned wind down for the holidays.
Looking for a bit of advice.
Context 31M, single, London, £240k TC.
Investments: £320k pension, £200k ISA, £50k NS&I bonds, £200k cash
Two questions that I’d appreciate some input on:
-
Over indexed on cash as I was hoping to buy property. But after running the numbers and shopping around, it doesn’t quite seem like the sound financial move I thought it was + I enjoy the freedom of renting. Wanted to instead invest this in a GIA. However, given my time horizon isn’t 10+ years (might change my mind) and the market looking over valued - I feel nervous biting the bullet right now. Anyone navigated a similar situation with some advice?
-
I’ve aggressively salary sacrificed into my pension. I’d like to retire early, say 45. Would it be dumb to now switch strategy and just take company match (4%) and throw the rest into a GIA or should I still max the tax benefits until I hit the taper (which may never happen - not sure I have the energy to earn more)?
Thanks all - appreciate it!
