How do you handle different geological reporting standards when working on mining projects abroad?
Working on some projects in Africa and elsewhere recently, I've noticed an often-underestimated challenge: aligning geological reporting standards across different countries. For instance, many regions require JORC-compliance, while domestic teams may be used to local standards. It's not just about translation—it affects resource estimation methods, confidence categorization, and even financing and equity structuring.
We went through this entire process on a gold project in Ghana: from supplemental drilling and data integration to delivering a resource report that met local requirements. The biggest takeaway: clarifying the standard early and finding a technical partner with relevant experience is crucial—it saves a lot of rework and re-explanation later.
Would love to hear your experiences:
- Have you ever faced project delays due to non-compliant reporting standards?
- Any tools or collaboration workflows that help multinational teams align geological data more smoothly?
