Rough start to first AE role, doubting my future in sales?

Hi Everyone,

Hope this is fine to post this here.

Recently started my first AE position a little over a month and a half ago. The product is very strong and the company is on a solid path for a later stage start-up (decently known name in the space), but it’s in an industry that I’m not the most well-versed or knowledgeable in compared to my colleagues.

As a majority outbound rep (on a new-ish sales team of like 12 that's expanding), I onboarded with another person we’ll call Susie. To put it bluntly, I am getting blown out of the water deal creation and meeting wise by Susie.

In our first two weeks of calling and having demos, Susie has booked 10 demos and has shown no signs of slowing down, while I’ve only gotten 3. We both have previous SDR experience, and are working majority hotter leads (think content downloads, website clicks, etc.). It feels like Susie is having all these connected calls and great conversations of 10+ minutes, while I’ve had like 10 decent conversations to begin with on the phone.

Admittedly, I’m disappointed already with how I’ve performed, and before I even took this job was questioning my long-term desire to remain in sales but wanted to give the AE role a shot. I still struggle with cold calling (Not that I get that nervous anymore, but I am just not the smoothest person on the phones and sound choppy) and I really am not that money-motivated. I got by at my old job with strong prospecting, but my cold calling skills were very up and down. Looking back at everything, I took very little time off at my old SDR role over 2 years (think like 8 days total vacation and sick) and jumped right into this role, and I really just feel burnt out.

I’ve been having some thoughts for months now about leaving Sales for another career (I wish something like marketing or finance, but not sure how to pivot into that as a 24yo male). I know many posts have been made like this one in this subreddit, but I honestly do not think I have the personality to thrive in Sales. I feel like people would describe me as a friendly and likable person, and I’m an outgoing introvert at that and this job requires a ton of socializing which kind of zaps my energy quickly with people I don't know (65 calls a day in a non-efficient call system, 45-60 min demos, pretty unattainable quota, have a hard time separating my numbers from affecting my personal life). It's also fully remote too, which I don't think is ideal for me.

Don’t mean to come across as a complainer, just experiencing a lot of doubt and maybe I just need to hear it from those in the weeds of Sales to get out. I just don’t think I’m built for this career (props to y’all though this is tough and I will always respect salespeople), and I’m not sure where to go from here.

Thank you guys regardless.
