(I will discuss each girls storylines and then my over all thoughts. I will also post again when I watch the second one soon/maybe tonight. I would love to hear other’s thoughts! These are just my takes. Sorry any grammar mistakes!)

Carrie: It feels like her character has had some growth in some areas since where the show left off. I loved the brown hair on her. Her rejecting that one man for having heels was diabolical lol. He sounded very qualified. I do love the assistant she chose in the end. I think Carrie giving a purse to her was so sweet. I think Carrie was a good friend to Miranda when she needed her. Until miranda told her about the comment she made to big. I understand why she was upset but the Steve comment was unnecessary. I also don’t believe her when she said she wouldn’t do the same. Carrie definitely would keep a secret from her friends. Maybe she wouldn’t do that anymore. But she definitely would in the past.

I know big struggles a lot mentally and with intimacy. I have a very small amount of sympathy for him. Him not wanting to make a big deal about their wedding because it’s his 3rd marriage is so selfish and that shouldn’t matter. This is Carries first! She deserves to enjoy it fully. Her reaction to being left at the alter is very valid. It doesn’t matter if he “changed his mind quickly after”. The disrespect and embarrassment he put her through. He wasted 200 guesses time and all the staffs as well. I hope the staff were still paid very well. The Vogue magazine made it even more embarrassing for her. I would have never been able to forgive him. She had to get her old place back with higher rent and extra fees. Did she have to sell it again? Did she actually enjoy their second wedding? Or was it just what big wanted.

Miranda: they ruined Steve for me. I don’t think he was even trying that hard to fix things. He should have never showed up to the wedding rehearsal. Don’t cause stress for the soon to be married couple. I don’t think she should have made the comment she did during s*x. I would be very hurt. I feel they both needed to communicate more. Him cheating was a very vaild reason for her to want a divorce. He didn’t consider not only Miranda’s feelings but how it would affect their son. I hated how all her friends were telling her she made a mistake. How does she know he will never do it again? What if she goes through another dry spell? I think the comment she made to big was extremely messed up tho. Honestly Big was probably gonna do what he was gonna do anyway. I think she didn’t need to say anything to Carrie. It would have been nice if we could know who Steve slept with. Was he drunk and or safe about it at very least?

Samantha: why did they randomly tank Smith’s character? He was such a good fit for her in the show. His behavior on valentines was atrocious. She made homemade sushi for him and laid on a table for an hourish. He suddenly became a selfish prick. I wish they would have said they broke up off screen. Then she could have been having impulsive sex with random man. It would have felt more Samantha that way. She could’ve been her fabulous self. The ending was just sad. I don’t think she would have chosen to be single if his character arc was the same. I think the comment Samantha made about Miranda not shaving was uncalled for and very patriarchal. She shouldn’t have shave if she doesn’t want to. Maybe Steve’s into it? Glad she got a puppy friend. The humping thing was so dumb. We didn’t need so many shots of it. One shot would have been enough.

Charlotte: I loved how she defended Carrie. You could tell she really cares about her. I hate the way she behaved in Mexico and that diarrhea scene was just horrible. I wish her pregnancy wasn’t so rushed. Her getting pregnant is such a big moment for her character. I would have loved to hear her experience being pregnant. Did she have any symptoms? We barely got to see her at the hospital. I would have loved to see her hold her baby for the first time. Her yelling at big was so funny and iconic. She did root for him most of the show. I think it’s sweet he took her to the hospital. I don’t think he should have chased her pregnant in the first place. Stress can cause early labor. I think she should protect her daughter more from inappropriate conversations. Her saying sex on Carrie’s phone shows she clearly retaining some of it. Whether she knows what she’s saying or not.

Misc: this critique is more on the writers/directors. I don’t think there should have been a scene of that little girl shirtless. I know it’s more realistic and there’s nothing wrong with it in inherently. But those moments happen in private around family/friends you trust. Putting it in movie that anyone can watch is not considering that child actors safety. I know this movie is from 2008 so that girl is fully grown now but still. Also with the context of how sexual this show. I Feel it’s bordering child p*rn.

Overall I think they tried to cram way too many storylines in this one movie. I think they could have stuck to 1 or 2 big plot points. I didnt have anytime to process everything that was going on. They just blow up the girls lives in major ways. Then quickly tried to mend them at the end. It felt very unsatisfying.

My thoughts on the first SATC movie.
