What's the term for this symptom?

It's not quite hearing voices, or maybe not quite yet. But when I'm stressed, I'll get this weird sensation in my ears, almost like tinnitus, that almost sounds like something but actually sounds like nothing at all. I have no idea how to describe it really. It's like a really loud nothing. It only lasts a second, but I feel like if it were to last any longer, or be any more intense, it would result in a full blown auditory hallucination (something I've never experienced before, despite being diagnosed with schizoaffective for the last 10 years.)
