Does anyone find that their knife's action seems to feel a little different from day to day?

I think it's the obsessiveness in me, but there are times when a knife has smooth-as-butter action, and others where that same knife has gritty action and lockstick despite not having been used or even taken out of the case. Have you experienced this? What causes this?
