Getting hired as a helper/laborer

Dear all, I dont know if this has been posted in this sub before. I am currently trying to get back to being employable and want to know if roofing is a route to go. I worked in plant operations as a supervisor in training and trained in operations for vats, starter and milk receiving at a big cheese company but got laid off Thanksgiving of last year and havent had steady unemployment other than a few side gigs last year. Long story short i acted like a loser and didnt get hired at any jobs requiring my degree so I want to start elsewhere. On top of that I have a pending DWI charge/case. I want to get my life on track, would roofing companies take a chance on me. I am willing to work out in the summer heat as well as the winter cold (although it doesnt get too cold in Texas where I live currently).
