Is this normal for devoted Christians?/srs

I (F24) have a husband (M26) who is extremely religious while i myself am not. He has on many occasions expressed himself as someone that wished he were as much of a monk as he could and that he has no need to talk to anyone including me and that he just likes having me around. I feel like there's something deeper to that as when he snaps(gets extremely mad and throws things around the house and has threatened me with a knife once). So is it normal for extreme christians to have this kind of behaviour because i dont know who else to speak with because im not religious so i feel there's a big change in perspective there. Ever since became more devoted he shied away from friends and has no wishes to have a better relationship with me. He thinks that the way things are now that they are great. Ill try to go more in detail while answering questions if there's need for it because I don't want to make it too long to read.
