Deregister a Nighthawk router account?

Hi - I stupidly allowed an ex boyfriend register my new router to a email and password he no longer remembers, and I would like to access admin controls and reregister the device to my own email address.

Can I do this with a factory reset or do I need to send a ticket to customer service to assist?
