My experience with AYN and the Thor.

Discussion

Hi everyone, just wanted to document my experience dealing with AYN for anyone who is on the fence about buying the Thor from the company. I won't let this deter you, but make of it what you will.

In October, I ordered my Rainbow max thor. Arrived the next month. Shipping with DHL went pretty smooth. Unfortunately, it was defective unit. The screen had a weird line across it indicating a faulty panel. The support during this time was rather slow, and after a week long exchange, support finally sent a USPS prepaid label. They told me that they would prioritize sending my device back as soon as the return was delivered. It just so happened that this coincided with the two weeks that they didn't ship any Rainbow maxes, so I was left waiting a while after the return was delivered. When they finally starting shipping rainbow maxes again, I wasn't included in the first batch which means they basically lied. They did end up finally sending it the next day after I sent an email.

Our story doesnt quite end here though. Once the replacement finally shipped it was another smooth experience with DHL 4 days arrival. Unfortunately yet again today, I received another faulty unit. This time, both joysticks are completely dead. Tried everything I can do without opening up the device. I have just reached out to support about this awaiting their response.

All in all, the support is not great, having to wait days on end with only a sentence reply and them not sticking to their word. Not to mention the risk of defects when you buy a product from AYN. Which yes you accept that risk buying from a small Chinese company anyway. Yes, their warranty tends to be more lenient than a lot of other companies in the same space, but when the support is a drag I feel like it simply isn't worth it.

I was hype for the Thor, but I was just simply unlucky both times. Due to these experiences, I can't recommend the product. I don't think I'll buy an AYN product ever again. However if you are happy to roll the dice, then by all means go ahead. Just hope that you aren't as unlucky as I am.

TL;DR: slow experience with customer service & bad quality control. Got 2 defective units. You're cooked if your product is defective. Buy with caution and low expectation.
