Looking for recommendations on home renovation companies or general contractors.

Anyone do a renovation in Markham recently and can share their contact, experience and costs paid? We are looking to renovate our house and are quite shocked at some of the prices we are getting quoted.

For reference the home is a townhome about 30 years old and just under 1700 sqft. The only structural changes we need to make would be on the main floor. Tear down 3 walls to open up the space and add a kitchen island. We decided on Ikea finishes.

So far we had 2 general contractors come by that quoted us 90k and 125k respectively for just the labor. The cheaper guy's vibes were off to us so we wouldn't go to him regardless of price.

One full service renovation company sent two people over and offered to do the whole home inclusive of everything for 230k.

Are people really paying 200k to renovate their homes these days? At this price we would probably just prefer to continue saving and upgrading to a bigger and newer house.
