(opinion) you all demonize servers too much
I understand being against tipping, there are genuinely good reasons against it, but I feel like a lot of the anger on this goes away from tipping and towards the servers as a whole.
Basically this entire sub treats waiters like they're all spoiled brats, who are making millions of dollars off of tips and driving Lamborghinis and eating caviar off the back of tips, when this simply isn't true.
First of all, despite what you may see or hear online, most waiters don't actually make that much, The average is around 35K, which is around the national median, the people making $1000 a night are the exception, not the rule, especially when you factor in that most servers are people working at places like Denny's and IHOP.
2nd of all, it's not the waiters who are keeping tips a thing, waiters are not some multi billion dollar lobbying group or swing-voting bloc that are keeping tips a thing, it's mostly business owners, who are both keeping it and benefiting from it.
The ones making the millions are the ones who own the restaurants, when you can pass off the cost of most of the wage to the consumer, you can make a lot more money, especially when you multiply it by thousands of locations with thousands of employees,
tipping is a problem that is a symptom of wider problems with the United States, it can only be solved by fixing those wider problems, it's not the person trying to get through the end of their shift that's the problem.
