Chili Eye: what do I do?!

My sweet rescue is an orange cat. Sweet, but not that many brains. Today he jumped up on the counter and stuck his face in a little bit of leftover chili that was in a bowl. The spices irritated his eye and now it’s all swollen and the third eyelid is swollen, too. I rinsed it with saline solution, but I don’t know what else to do. Obviously it’s red and terrifying, but should I take him to the vet? I’m a single mom and I work full time so I reeeeally dont want to take a half day off if this is not a Code Red situation. Any advice??
