Is it messed up my Black dad never defended me from microaggressions?
Context: im mixed(black&asian) and live in a asian country I grew up dealing with a bunch of microaggressions people touching my hair without asking, making fun of my 3–4 type curls, him asking me and mocking me on why I wear a bonnet like it’s weird, even making jokes about my African friend because he's from a poor country. They’d even call me “African” as an insult because I was overweight.
What really messes me up now is my dad (who is Black) never defended me. He’d just… sit there. Silent. Sometimes even join with them and mock me.
Now that I’m older, I’m starting to realize how wrong all that was. Is that messed up? Or am I overreacting?
