Has anyone else noticed that the rich, executives and politicians, via the media is trying to convince everyone that low-income is actually high-income?
I've noticed the uptick in drones even on social media, but it's really ramped up in the media lately. We have politicians and executives now "worth" billions, many billions, and soon trillions. The message (aka propaganda) is coming from the top. If you make $XX,XXX you're a high income earner. And then there is the constant barrage of the terms "6 figures" as if this is still something special. "6 figures" is such a broad range it means nothing to say it, but generally the propaganda is pushing that if you make $100,000.01, you're filthy rich. Today I read of how "high income earners" are now buying their necessities, not just food, from Walmart. I thought, that's interesting, wonder where they used to shop? The article goes on to describe how a family making $75,000 a year can no longer afford to shop at Target and now needs to buy supplies, not just groceries, from Walmart.
30 years ago, I was living in a LCOL area, at least it's proclaimed to be. My boss was making $70,000. I was making $50,000 as a clerk of sorts with no professional degree, and my boss's boss was making $16,000,000. That is how large wealth disparities were back then, not nearly as bad as they are now. Even so, back then my boss's boss paid millions to have researchers and psychologists ascertain tactics for convincing workers (or coercing and forcing workers) to work more and faster for less pay. Think pizza parties, which was the ultimate solution, pizza parties and rewards programs, where you get trinkets to wear or show off on your desk as an overachiever for the company. Mind you the executives pilfered everyone's pension plans and made off with tens of millions more, while casting hundreds of people into poverty, unemployment, and ulimtately betrayal that they never recovered from as the company shuttered in the US and re-opened in Mexico.
Anyhow, inflation happened and happened in a big way. Ask anyone about the price of housing, rentals or buying. Ask anyone about the cost of transportation to get to work, or food to keep eating. Ask anyone about the cost of health care or a nearly futile effort to pinch enough pennies back to put aside for retirement. Inflation happened.
Point being is that this message was and still is not just propaganda, but horrible, life ruining propaganda. And you should do the math. Add it all up, and demand a fairer share of the wealth you create. Executives back then didn't really need $16,000,000 per year to survive or prosper, but they took it anyway at the expense of many lives, many livelihoods, at a cost that stretches across generations. What the top people are taking these days, it puts the greedy of the past to shame. There are no bounds to greed. So do the math. Add up the cost of housing, healthcare, food, transportation, everything it takes to survive to work another day, BUT add in the cost of actually living and enjoying life, and then, add in the cost of saving for the inevitable, when your job is offshored and eliminated 2, 3, 4 or more times in your career, and you need to save for retirement as well, because no one, NO ONE is coming to save you when they cut you out that last time. Do the math. If the rich could get away with paying you $0 to serve it up to them, they would. They'll do anything to convince you that the reason you struggle is your fault, not theirs, and they do this because they have no bounds to the greed. Every generation of them wants to take more and more, till you have nothing left to give. So do the math, make it work for you, demand a fair share, because if you don't, you'll learn the hard way that low pay, job loss, and so many other negatives compound just like the investments of the rich. Those losses compound over the years, and they'll cost you everything.
