3 nights in Tuscany - Pienza or Montepulciano - concerned about night driving and looking for great restaurants

Help me out! I'll be in Tuscany at the very end of March for 3 nights. I love great food and great wine. I also am looking for a very clean, comfortable place to stay within a mile of a small town with excellent restaurants. We're willing to drive a very, very short distance at night after dinner but want to be able to enjoy our wine with our meal. I would say we could drive up to a mile but no further.

Would you recommend we stay in Montepulciano or Pienza?

It looks like Pienza has the better restaurants but Montepulciano has better accomodation.
Your experiences would be really helpful.
