Summary of Last Session (Tuesday, December 9, 2025)
The markets continued their correction for the second consecutive session, driven by nervousness ahead of the US Federal Reserve meeting
- Closing Value: NIFTY 50 closed at 25,839.65, down by 120.90 points (-0.47%)
- The Price Action:
- Volatile Dip: The index opened gap-down and experienced sharp selling in the first half, hitting an intraday low of 25,728
- Smart Recovery: Crucially, the index defended the 50-Day EMA support (near 25,730) and recovered over 100 points from the lows, though it still finished in the red
- Sectoral Split:
- Drags: IT stocks (-1.2%) were the biggest losers due to potential US tariff fears and the looming Fed decision. Auto and Metals also remained weak
- Gainers: PSU Banks (+1.3%), Consumer Durables, and Realty bucked the trend. Midcaps and Smallcaps outperformed the benchmark, closing in the green
- Institutional Data:
- FIIs: Net Sellers of ~₹3760 Cr (Selling intensity picked up against previous 2 sessions)
- DIIs: Net Buyers of ~₹6224 Cr (Continued to absorb supply)
Outlook for Today: Wednesday, December 10, 2025
The outlook for today is Cautious / Range-Bound with a likely Flat to Muted Opening. The market is expected to remain in a "Wait and Watch" mode until the US Fed outcome late tonight
1. Implied Opening: Flat to Marginally Negative
- GIFT Nifty Cue: As of this morning (7:30 AM IST), GIFT Nifty is trading around 25,900 – 25,910
- Implied Start: Considering the fair value premium for December futures, this implies the NIFTY 50 Spot will likely open near 25,840 – 25,860 (virtually flat)
2. Latest Factors Impacting the Opening
A. Global Cues (Mixed/Cautious)
- US Markets: Wall Street closed mixed overnight. The Nasdaq managed a small gain (+0.1%), but the Dow Jones fell (-0.4%). Traders are hesitant to take big positions before the Fed announcement
- Fed Meeting: The US Federal Reserve will announce its interest rate decision late tonight (12:30 AM IST Thursday). While a 25 bps rate cut is widely expected, the commentary on future cuts will determine the trend for Thursday
B. Domestic Factors
- Support at 25,700: Yesterday’s recovery from 25,728 confirmed that 25,700 is a strong demand zone. As long as this holds, the short-term structure is "Range-Bound" rather than bearish
- Rupee Weakness: The Rupee has weakened to ~90.15 against the Dollar, which is negative for FII flows but theoretically supports IT stocks (though sentiment there is currently weak)
3. Technical Levels to Watch
| Level | Significance | Strategy |
|---|---|---|
| 26,000 | Resistance | The psychological hurdle. Fresh buying only above this |
| 25,840 | Pivot | Yesterday's close. Opening zone |
| 25,730 | Strong Support | Yesterday's Low & 50-EMA. Best zone to Buy on Dips |
Trading Strategy for Today:
- Defensive Stance: Expect low volumes and choppy movement during the day
- Buy near Support: If Nifty dips towards 25,750, look for a bounce play with a small stop loss below 25,700
- Avoid Aggressive Shorts: Since the event (Fed) is tonight, shorting at support (25,730) is risky as a "Dovish Fed" could trigger a massive gap-up tomorrow
