“I don’t care about any other qualifications. The only thing that matters is French.” - My Director

Management / Gestion

I know this is nothing new really, but it’s just so frustrating. And it’s another example of them saying the quiet part out loud.

To be clear, she was lamenting the policy. But we have to replace some critical positions that will not be WFA. The work is highly specialized and technical. I for example have my formal education as well as a significant amount of industry certifications, and I feel like I need them to do my job well.

But the ridiculous of the language requirement is insane. We are having so much trouble staffing the position due to a lack of bilingual people available with ANY relevant skills.

I asked her today “So you are essentially telling me that as far as you are concerned, a new grad with a French Immersion background but zero experience is more qualified for this position than any of the highly experienced and highly skilled people on the team? “

She just looked at me and said “my hands are tied. None of you are bilingual and the buck stops there. Literally nothing else matters and there’s nothing I can do about it.”

Oh and “There’s no funding for French, and it would take years anyway.“
