You guys weren't kidding

I haven't played this game in a couple of years but I've occasionally checked this sub to see how the game was doing and I see a lot of complaints about MMR.

I finally had the urge to try again and after not playing for 2 years I am now a 3 star. Played a couple matches and it takes 10 minutes to find a match and these are teams I get to play against. This is US west so I would have expected it to be good at this time of day. Are there times of day that can get even matches? Or should I try a different server?
