Battery drained while charging even after replacement
Device Specs:
Dell G15 5515 Ryzen 7 5600h 3050 4GB
Two weeks ago while watching Netflix after an online class, I noticed my battery percentage decreasing while charging and ultimately cutting off after 2 hours.
With the help of a technician, we ruled it out to a perhaps the old battery dying. I ordered a replacement battery and when reinserted, the laptop came on with the bios detecting the battery operating as normal at 35% but the battery still continued decreasing with the charging light on and windows detecting it being plugged in. Using a multimeter and a lower wattage power supply (Charger is 240W, power supply was only 190W), the DC jack and battery connecter pins were checked on the motherboard and it seemed fine, even using different power supplies and charger.
The laptop is 3 years old and operated primarily via ac use for gaming, small video edits and school assignments.
TDLR: It could be the original battery causing a short on the motherboard but I’d like a second opinion. Additionally it could be the adapter that I have is not sufficient enough to power the battery or has failed me.
