Is there a universal stitch pattern to finish a beanie regardless of stitch count?

I’m working on a 1x1 rib beanie and I’ve looked at several beanie patterns but they’re all written for their specific gauge that I don’t meet. I was wondering if there’s some sort of universal repeat to finish a beanie like k2tog every 4th stitch or something?

Also, an unrelated but similar question, I feel like I’m seeing 2 main beanie crowns. Ones where it’s just a circle that’s decreasing smaller and one where the beanie is split in half, formed into a sort of semi circle then seamed across. Is that right? If so, which do you prefer and what are the pros and cons of each method.
