AITA for not telling my best friend about his wife?
I’m going to try and shorten this as much as possible. From fall 2023 to spring 2025 I lived with my (28f) best friend since 13 (let’s call him Peter) and his wife (let’s call her Tink) who was also a very close friend of mine. I also worked with Tink at the same clinic where she was a nurse. Peter’s parents took me in frequently when I was a teen and in my early 20s, and became family for me over the years. Shortly before I moved out of their house, Tink was caught having a sexual relationship with one of our patients and was fired within 3 hours of opening the investigation. For a multitude of other reasons that I won’t go into, I was not speaking to Peter or Tink at this time, and things were honestly quite hostile at home, so I mostly kept to myself. I continued to do so in the following days, and my work even sent me to a nearby location that needed help so that I could get out of their house for a few days to give them some space. After speaking to some mutual friends, I learned that she was telling others that she had been laid off. However, I noticed when I was around the day after she was fired, they were acting as though everything with them was normal. After about a week of it eating me alive, I finally mustered the courage to ask him what she told him. She told him a vague, altered version of the truth from what I could gather, not that I exactly offered him any extra details, but I could tell he wasn’t interested in listening to what I had to say about it. I just told him that I felt that I should reach out to him.
It is now December 2025, and I have maintained my distance from Peter and Tink, despite how difficult it has been at times. Although I have confirmation through connections at work that Tink’s nursing license will be revoked, it has not gone through the board officially yet. Tink did some shady shit to me so NGL, I’ve been on the edge of my seat to see how this turns out. However, I do feel for Peter if he’s truly in the dark about this. He also did some shady and hurtful shit to me, but I know Tink had a lot to do with that. Yet, I don’t want to excuse his shitty behavior either, he’s grown and should know what he did. I’ve maintained a boundary with them for my safety and sanity, but I’d be lying to say I wasn’t tempted to reach out to him. But it’s hard to know if he’d even believe me without the proof from the board.
AITA if I wait for this to come out naturally instead of trying to tell him myself?
