1. This is my friend’s budgie. He is NEVER given this spoon unsupervised. And he does this behavior with most spoons, even ones not shiny or reflective at all, like the clip at the end of him playing with a black plastic ice cream spoon.

2. He is NOT a solitary budgie, he has a little brother who loves to follow him around everywhere. He doesn’t care much about his lil bro but he does respond to his calls (no preening behavior though). Both budgies are free-flighted the entire day and go into their cage on their own. Their cage is never locked/closed. They both always step up.

3. Mirrors are kept away. The only couple times he’s been around a mirror, he does some squinting thing into it and stares, but never regurgitates or does any of that. His other budgie does not care about mirrors or objects at all.

We want to ask what we should do in this situation? He is so happy with his spoon and he will even bring it to his owner sometimes. He used to even fly/glide around with a plastic spoon. I searched everywhere on the internet and couldn’t find similar budgie behavior anywhere. Would love to hear thoughts.

My friend’s budgie is incredibly silly with spoons!
