Hey everyone,

I’m dealing with a pretty stressful situation rn, and would really appreciate some input from people who’ve handled bike insurance claims dealing w ICICI Lombard before.

I was involved in a recent accident where my Suzuki V-Strom 250 SX suffered front-end damage (headlight assembly, indicator, alignment issues, knuckle guard, etc.)

The situation of the accident was that, my boyfriend was driving the bike, not me, around 7pm on a dark highway, 60kms away from the city where I bought the bike. And there were vehicles with highbeams on, on the opposite lane, so we could barely see what was ahead. Out of nowhere, a couple of buffaloes ran onto the road and before my boyfriend could manoeuvre it towards the right, the impact happened on the left (u can see in the pictures that mostly the left front is damaged). Luckily he stabilised the bike so it didn’t fall down. But he suffered a pretty bad distal phalange fracture to his middle finger of the left hand. Nothing happened to me, however.

After the crash, he couldn’t drive so I took over and drove it back home on the pitch dark highway for 60kms, despite the handlebar being compressed towards the tank and making it difficult to steer it properly.

This was the first time in my life I was involved in an accident. Prior to this, I have zero knowledge how deal with crashing my ride.

Anyway, the next day, I took it to the showroom to assess the damage and see how much insurance can be claimed. The dealer who dealt me the bike asked me to tell I was the one who was driving the bike when it crashed since the bike was under my name. So I told the same to another guy in the showroom who was writing down my claim. And that’s when he pointed out that my 2+4 license was only MCWOG and not MCWG, which means my insurance claim would be rejected.

The thing is, when I bought the bike, the dealer never checked my driving licence nor told me anything about licence categories. I genuinely didn’t know this MCWOG/MCWG difference at the time of purchase.

So now the dealer said to go ahead with the original story of what actually happened, which was my boyfriend driving the bike when it crashed. So I gave my boyfriend’s DL, Aadhar Card, and even attached photos of his fracture for proof. But now the showroom guys are saying that the insurance claim has only 50-50 chances, and that they will take nearly 20-30 days just to investigate the legitimacy of the accident (wtfff!?)

Am I getting screwed here?
How do I deal with this situation?

Need advice about insurance claim after a crash…
