I Think I Finally Found the Real Me (18)

NSFW

Hey Reddit, I’ve been lurking here for a while, never really having the guts to post anything, but tonight something just… clicked. And I can’t stop smiling. I guess this is more of a journal than anything else, but maybe someone out there needs to read this too.

So yeah — I’m 18, just started college, and for the first time in my life, I have my own room. No nosy parents, no younger siblings barging in. Just me. And silence. Which, at first, was terrifying.

I’ve always known I was different. Not in the dramatic, movie-scene way. Just little things. I never liked “boy” clothes. I hated gym class. I used to secretly play dress-up with my cousin’s clothes when I was 10, but I always told myself it was “just curiosity.”

Well… curiosity doesn’t make your heart race and your cheeks burn with happiness, right?

Last week, something weird happened. I ordered a few things online — just small stuff. A pastel pink choker. Some thigh-high socks. A skirt. I told myself it was just a “joke” for a party (there was no party). But when the package came, and I put everything on that night, something shifted.

It felt right.

I stood in front of the mirror, heart pounding like I’d just broken some unspoken law, and I didn’t see “me” anymore — not the version of me I’d been trying to play all my life. I saw someone softer. Cuter. Someone who looked back at me and smiled, like they’d been waiting to be let out.

I didn’t feel ashamed.

I didn’t feel scared.

I felt alive.

That was four nights ago. Since then, I’ve been experimenting more. Makeup. Voice. Even walking differently around my room (and yeah, I might’ve done a little catwalk in front of the mirror — don’t judge 😅).

I don’t really know what this all means yet. I’m not ready to tell anyone in real life. But I think… no, I know this is the start of something real. For the first time in 18 years, I’m not pretending.

And I can’t wait to see where this goes.

If anyone out there has been through something similar, or has tips (especially around being more confident and maybe… eventually going out like this?) — I’d love to hear it.

Anyway, thanks for reading this far. Maybe I’ll post a part 2 soon. 😌💖
