If you're a huge reader, what books--of any genre--struck you as having excellent characterization around themes of family, unity, togetherness, etcetera?

I've been a huge reader my whole life but especially liked books that genuinely explored themes of friendship, family, etcetera. More recent faves have included THE SILENCE IN THE GARDEN by William Trevor, THE HILLS AT HOME by Nancy Clark and a gem from my childhood called THE BOMBERS' MOON by Betty Vander Els.

I also really enjoyed the series by Maggie Stiefvater featuring SHIVER, LINGER AND FOREVER. The characters were written with such compassion and humanity that the whole thing really stood out for me.

If you've actually also read 'any' of these books, do share. If not, please share about books that put you in a similar, warm-hearted and appreciative place.

Books that realistically portray characters going through intense and unexpected things who manage to maintain extraordinary bonds with one another anyway are a marvelous companion through this life.
