My landlord is asking me to do AC maintenance I’ve never even heard of.
Hi all,
I want to know if I’m missing something.
My AC is leaking. I reached out to my landlord to get an AC guy out. She responded by saying I have to do the maintenance and it’s probably flooded, that if he finds something it’ll be on me to pay for the fix. She’s telling me I need to drain it and pour vinegar or Clorox into the tube.
I’m 38 and have had central AC my entire life, but I have never heard of draining the AC and pouring chemicals into it as a part of regular maintenance or as something that I have to do as a resident. I thought it was something professionals do as needed. I maintain it by changing the filter every month. In my last place I had a service come and clean the coils every 6 months or so. If it’s my responsibility and part of regular maintenance I’ll do it, I’ve just never had to before. She also reached out a few months ago to tell me the neighbor shares a water line with me and was having issues with her AC, so I don’t even know if it should be my responsibility.
Any input is appreciated, thank you.
